Giving Back

We believe the joy of flowers should be shared outrageously.

Mary's Flower Fairies

One week during our first season we had extra flowers, so Kathy called her friend Mary to ask if she knew anyone who could use a pick-me-up. Mary knows everyone in town, no lie. She’s so well connected that the town gave her a job calling everyone in Bolton over 75 on their birthday.

Her job keeps her well informed on the town. She knows who is in the hospital, who has lost a loved one, who is sick, had surgery, or had a baby, and she is always thinking of others. She leaves coupons in mailboxes, picks items up at yard sales, and delivers meals.

When Kathy called to ask who we could deliver the extra flowers to, she came over to the farm, made little bouquets, wrapped them in newspaper and drove around town dropping them off at carefully selected homes.

It was the best use of Joy Farm’s flowers, so we made it a habit. Each Friday, she came over, loaded her car up with buckets of flowers, and did her thing. It was amazing to watch happen.

Over the years, Mary has had to slow down a bit. We recruit volunteers, Mary’s Flower Fairies, to help her put the bouquets together and make deliveries.

There’s truly nothing better than watching the joy spread from our flowers to our community.
